Niger Tornadoes Suffered A Slim Defeat In Gombe After Missing Glaring Chances:
The Ikon Allah Boys hope of picking an away point against host Gombe United was dashed as they succumbed to Abdulazeez Yusuf’s early minute goal during the matchday 8 encounter decided at the Pantami Stadium.
The encounter which began with the host dictating the pace of the game was rewarded at the eleventh minute on the clock when the home side broke away on a fast counter-attacking play as Abdulazeez ran into space and slot the ball passed George Michael in the post. The Stadium erupted with wild jubilation by a large number of fans who turned out for the match.
Moments later the hosts were awarded a penalty after Jacob John was adjudged to have committed a punishable foul inside the box, the resultant penalty kick was however parried away by George Michael who produced a spectacular save to deny Jimoh from doubling the hosts lead.
Tornadoes technical bench effected a quick change upon noticing a slack in the middle as Abdulkadir Zango replaced Mohammed Hussaini to fortify the midfield, the change however paid off as the Ikon Allah Boys ceased control of the game from then onward, the first half however ended with the guest behind.
A few minutes into the second half Shamsudeen Hashim had a glaring chance to restore parity after coming face to face with the goalkeeper but his effort was thwarted by Yekini in post for Gombe United.
Several other incursions into the opposition’s end including Ahmadu Liman’s shot that came off the cross bar showed the Ikon Allah Boys ran out of luck to get something out of the game.
Post Match Reaction:
Abubakar Bala Mohammed, Technical Adviser of Niger Tornadoes showered praises on his boys despite the defeat.
…” The boys gave a very good account of themselves despite the defeat, we also had our chances which we were unable to convert. ” we will go back and look at the weak areas and find a way of correcting them before the next home match”.
