The head of transfers and marketing at Al Ahly, Amir Tawfik, confirmed that football team head coach Pitso Mosimane will remain at the club until the end of the season.
Mosimane had a historic run with the Reds, since joining them in October of last year. In 64 games in charge, the South African lost just five games and won the club a lot of silverware.
In less than two months, Mosimane won the CAF Champions League against arch rivals Zamalek as well as the Egypt Cup one month later.
He then went on to finish third in the Club World Cup and lifted the CAF Super Cup, before winning his second consecutive Champions League, all in a span of five months.
However, the 57-year-old came under a lot of fire by the end of the 2021 summer, after having lost the Egyptian Premier League title to Zamalek. T add insult to injury, he also shockingly lost the Egyptian Super Cup against Tala’a El-Gaish.
While his achievements overshadow his downfalls, Mosimane was still subject of a lot of criticism lately and rumors regarding his departure started increasing.
Despite that, it was previously reported that Al Ahly held talks to renew his contract after instructions from club president Mahmoud El-Khatib.
The negotiations didn’t seem to be going well, as no news of an agreement being reached was announced, with reports coming out of South Africa linking Pitso with an early departure.
Al Ahly, finally, came out to debunk these rumors and assured that Mosimane will remain until the end of his contract, which expires in June of 2022.
In his statement, Amir Tawfik confirmed that Mosimane did not ask for any increase in his salary and that the club wants him to stay because Al Ahly is convinced with his ability to fulfill the goals and expectations of Al Ahly fans.
Al Ahly’s official website also claim that Mosimane expressed his happiness to work at Al Ahly and stated that he wants to continue his mission with the African Club of the Century.
Tawfik ended the statement by assuring fans that the discussions went in a friendly way about the team’s future and that both parties agreed on settling all the matters by the end of the current contract.
