It was a joy and a sad ending to the Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs for Shooting Stars as they were stunned by Niger Tornadoes 3-2 in the final on Sunday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
It was the Ikon Allah boys, who made a return to the Nigerian top flight that took the lead through Shamsudeen in the 9th minutes to put Tornadoes 1-0 ahead.
Then Shooting stars responded as Olafimilan Gafar made it 1-1 in the 16th minute as both sides went into the halftime break with the game tied 1-1.
Niger Tornadoes quickly doubled their lead in the 58th minute when Ahmadu Ibrahim strike in from the edge of the box to put his side 2-1 up with 30th minutes left to play, Bafan then put Tornadoes in a perfect spot as he made it 3-1 in the 64th minutes but the game continued to create more dramatic moves as Raheem Quadry pulled a goal back for Shooting Stars to make it 3-2 but the goal was not enough as Niger Tornadoes held on to secured a 3-2 victory over Shooting Stars and The Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs Champions.
Niger Tornadoes will now join the likes of Shooting Stars, Remo Stars and Gombe United to be promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football league ahead of the 2021/2022 season.
Shooting Stars midfielder, Olafimihan was named the Highest goalscorer and best player of the tournament.
He scored four goals in four matches for Shooting Stars in the tournament.
